Body Exfoliants: Refine, Soften & Awaken Skin
Exfoliation is key to revealing softer, smoother, younger-looking skin. Just as important as exfoliating is the kind of exfoliator you choose. Salt scrubs Sea salt granules are strong exfoliants due to their characteristic sharp angles. The profile of the granule helps it really slough off dry, flaky skin on feet, legs, elbows and even knuckles (taking care not to rub too vigorously on the tops of hands which tend to have more delicate skin). These salt formulas are usually pre-mixed with an oil base, such as Biotone’s Exfoli-Sea Salt Glow. This stimulating formula has three different sizes of therapeutic salts from the Dead Sea combined with natural Luffa. The oil is a mix of Jojoba, Avocado, Peach and Sunflower to replenish and soften the skin. Another favorite is the Bon Vital Mango & Tangerine Salt Glow, with softening Jojoba, Olive and Safflower oils, as well as the tropical fragrance of mango and citrus. Sugar Scrubs These gentler formulas can be equally effective, but better for more sensitive skin and/or areas because the sugars dissolve more easily. Warm the scrub and apply on the body with a light effleurage motion to gently buff away dry skin. With scents like Tangerine Basil, Vanilla Lemongrass, Chocolate Peppermint, Pink Grapefruit, Coconut Crush and Café Brulee, you are sure to find an exfoliator to satisfy any of your client’s preferences. Another fan favorite is Biotone’s Sugar Body Polish, which contains brown and white sugar, as well as firming hydrators, and cleansers of Milk Proteins, Honey, Clover and Royal Jelly for an intensely moisturizing experience. As well as buffing away dry skin, these formulas can also help with stress relief, like Soothing Touch’s Lavender Salt Scrub. This formula contains an herbal mixture of St. Johns Wort, Green Tea, Lavender essential oil, Celtic Sea Salt and their signature Ayurvedic Oil blend. The mixture of herbs and essential oils is completely relaxing and rejuvenating. Body Polish Polishes are crème based, making them ideal for sensitive skin, but are also used as a precursor to cleansing body treatments like seaweed and mud wraps. The Micro-Buff Body Polish from Biotone not only buffs away dry skin, but also contains Wheat, Apricot and Alpha-Hydroxy Lactic acids to accelerate cell removal.
